SheCanTri brought us the First Female Triathletes from Afghanistan

This past week has been a whirl of activity as we welcomed three Afghani female triathletes, together with their coach/mentor, founder of She Can Tri and amazing triathlete to Los Olivos Cycling and Triathlon Training Camp (LOCTTC).   We were also joined by Natalie Vanaubel from Belgium who gave up her time to come and assist with this wonderful initiative.

The objective was to expose them to better training conditions to help them on their journey to compete in the Dubai Ironman 70.3 in 2020.  It was wonderful to see them grow from being afraid to venture into the open water to swimming out into deeper water and become more confident in this environment together with improving their swimming technique.   They also made improvement in cycling skills and confidence, on the last day doing a little duathlon (run/cycle/run).

Halfway through the week we had a lovely break when we visited Granada and the Alhambra Palace, concluding the day with a lovely dinner at Venta El Gallo in the Sacromonte Caves where we finished the evening watching a real flamenco show.

It has been a great privilage to be part of this very tough and long journey that the Afghani triathletes have undertaken with the support and help of Jackie Faye.  We wish them all the best with the continued training and look forward to seeing them complete their first triathlon.
